We will explore the lives of these two lively and characteristic working-class neighborhoods on opposite sides of the Tiber river by walking among the ruins of the Roman Empire and exploring some of the most ancient churches of the city. We will discuss the origins of the “cucina povera” of the Roman Jewish community with its simple ingredients but intense flavors. We will then cross the river to enter the Trastevere neighborhood to explore the history and traditions of its inhabitants and appreciate the impressive churches of Santa Maria in Trastevere and Santa Cecilia. This tour will help you discover the “other side” of Rome’s history.
