This pleasant and distinguished neighborhood owes its name to the cultivated fields and natural meadows which were in this area until the end of the 17th century. Around that time the neighborhood started hosting all the administrative bodies of the Italian Kingdom and the residences for its officials. This neighborhood is characterized by wide and regular roads, stately homes and classy shops.

artcastel-sangelo-1This is Rome’s youngest neighborhood and therefore its most significant squares and buildings date back to the 17th century (among those are the Palazzo di Giustizia which houses the Court of Appeal and Piazza Cavour). Prati borders the Vatican and its enormous artistic and cultural heritage and is not far from the city center: an enviable location indeed!

foodottaviano1Those who love shopping will appreciate Via Cola di Rienzo, one of the most famous shopping streets, particularly for clothes, shoes and household products. The Trionfale market is one of the most famous of Rome where you can buy fresh and good quality food.

greenpiazza-cavour-1The closest green area is the Castel Sant’Angelo Garden where it is possible to stroll around the walls and if you have children, use the playground. On the nearby stretch of the Lungotevere (the embankment along the Tiber river) there is also an Italian Garden which is generally used in summer to stage outdoor performances and movie showings, house temporary kiosks selling a variety of wares and where miscellaneous cultural events take place.

night-lifeborgo-pio-2Although far from the Trastevere night buzz, Prati can offer a surprisingly high and ever-growing number of clubs, restaurants and pubs: more sophisticated and quieter locations where – we are confident – you will never get bored!

public-transportmetro-ottaviano-1Very well served by public transport; both bus lines and metro line A (Ottaviano and Lepanto metro stops) make it easy to reach the city center.

Many of us like this area which is mainly residential and suitable for families with its nice squares and well kept public spaces. Tourists are a relatively small percentage here due to the limited number of historic monuments in the area: if you want to get to know Romans and live not far from the city center, this is the right place for you!
