Visiting Ancient Ostia is fascinating for visitors of all ages who will discover how an ancient Roman town looked like as this town was never destroyed, but simply abandoned. The emperor Trajan built this impressive harbor when Rome was at its peak in order to deliver the wheat and other provisions necessary to feed the city’s 1 million inhabitants. Thanks to the harbor, the town grew in importance, as we will see reflected in the beautiful buildings that were constructed. We will visit Porta Romana, the Neptune Baths, a fire station, a theater, a bakery, bars, shops and the main square. Some of them are still decorated with original mosaics and marble.
