In Rome, the word Testaccio is synonymous with markets, food and soccer. In ancient Roman times, this is the area where foodstuffs and marble arriving in the port town of Ostia were brought to be distributed throughout the city. More recently, this neighborhood hosts a very famous outdoor market and a former slaughterhouse which is now Rome’s best example of industrial archaeology, hosting the MACRO museum and part of the Roma Tre University. This is more than a market tour, it will take you to the heart of “romanità” (the Roman spirit).
